Silent Sunday: 12/05/2010

This November 12 edition of the Heavener Ledger ("Gateway to the Mountains" - serving Heavener and LeFlore County since 1904) is but one example of the challenges Oklahoma faces re: poor bridges and roads. For more information on what looks to be possible improvement in our state's situation, click this photo to visit a NewsOK article recently published.

Everyone is invited to ride as the Altus Armed Services YMCA once again hosts the very popular “Santa Claus Express” train ride for families in southwest Oklahoma on Saturday, Dec. 11, at 10 a.m., and 1 p.m. Enjoy a holiday excursion with your family on "The Santa Claus Express" as it travels round trip from the Whistle Stop at Quartz Mountain to the City of Lone Wolf in the comfort of climate controlled cars. With its large panoramic windows and reclining seats, you’ll have a chance to see an historic portion of the storied “Orient Line” that linked Kansas City with the Pacific Coast of Mexico, while enjoying cookies and milk with Santa. Each child who rides will have an individual visit and photo with Santa himself, and a beautiful wrapped gift. There’s no greater gift than the gift of memory. Create one of quality Christmas time shared with your family this year, and help support our Altus ASYMCA military outreach efforts. Call 580-471-6729 or 580-471-4674 to enjoy this wonderful trip, or to sponsor a military family for $25 a ticket. Info reprinted from the Altus Times.
"Rowboat with Floats" - photo by Oklahoma City Photographer, Jason Bondy. Reprinted with permission. One perspective of the Chihuly glass on display at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art. If you've not yet been, consider taking a quiet break from shopping and walk along the beautiful aisles where this display is staged. Enjoy!
See next photo for explanation and information. (Photo by Wazari Wazir - w/ permission)
Malaysian governmental photographer, Wazari Wazir, takes stunning photos of his subjects who include dignitaries, visiting statespersons, special national holidays, etc. However, when searching for "Silent Sunday" content, sometimes the RDC editor just likes to put in special photos taken with love. This is the child of Wazari, and he captures him quite well. Part of Oklahoma is how the red dirt connects with other cultures. The only connection here is that the photographer granted permission to print these shots, and the editor liked them. Thanks, Wazari! (Click photo for link to photographer's blog)
Nothing sweeter than a bunch of girls ready to ride their horses (with garland!) in the OKC Stockyards City Christmas Parade. December 3rd and 4th was a special time for the Stockyards City with sights galore. I hear the longhorns were sporting Santa hats!
I had to shrink this photo to quasi-fit on the web page. "Workshop and Three Elves" can be seen in full panaramic form at photographer's website. Click photo to visit.
