Dips Galore!

Ever have a craving for chips and dip? I’ve decided that’s a staple in my diet…I would suggest adding some fruit and veggies in the mix though.

I recently moved salons, from Western to Casady Square, where my friend also followed and received the position of executive assistant. (We don’t like to use the word “receptionist”) 😉 The traffic flow is amazing in that area so we decided to have a Stella & Dot Trunk show Monday night. (If you haven’t heard of the jewelry line check out stelldot.com/jennifermanning….its amazing!) Anyway, I volunteered to make some appetizers to take. Can I please tell you that I made 4 in less than 30 min! If you don’t like to cook at least give some of these a whirl! Its easier than opening a jar from the grocery store and putting it in a bowl to take it somewhere. You know we all have done that! Most of the items in the dips you could easily have/keep at home for a quick homemade appetizer!

Crab Dip

By Rose Davis & Keri Hale

1 (6oz) can crab
3oz cream cheese
30z cream cheese with chives (might be hard to find, I used 1 6oz container cream cheese and added chives)
2 T. mayo
2 tsp. lemon juice (easy to keep the little lemon shaped bottle in your fridge to add to any recipe)
1/8 tsp. hot pepper sauce (I used chipotle tabasco sauce)

Mix all ingredients. Bake at 350 degrees 15-20 min. Should be bubbling and brown.

(Great dip, looks fancy but is easy to make but fishy so not for people wary of seafood!)

I added a sprinkle of cayenne on top for a little extra flavor and color

I used the mayo with Olive Oil that I already had

Curry Dip
By Kim Stewart

1 T. Curry powder

1 c miracle whip light
1 T. lemon juice

Mix all together and serve with veggies.

(Also great to serve with pita chips!)

Easy Breezy Salsa
By Dustie Butner

2 (8 oz) cans tomato sauce
1 sm. white onion (diced…use a food processor if you have one! no tears 😉
2 tsp. red pepper flakes
2 tsp. garlic powder
1 tsp. salt
dash of pepper
1/3 c water (would probably use less next time, I prefer more of a thicker, chunky salsa though)

Mix all ingredients together, chill, serve with tortilla chips and enjoy!

(Very good! My bf knew I had eaten something with garlic in it, a mere price to pay…)

Easy Queso
By Monte Pratt

1 (8oz) pkg cream cheese

1 can Wolf Brand Chili (with or w/o beans)
(I used a lean can with beans)

Heat cream cheese and chili in saucepan on low heat until melted. Serve with chips.

(This was by far the favorite and the easiest…not the healthiest, but you can buy lowfat cream cheese and lowfat chili that always makes me feel better about eating the whole bowl!)

Growing up my mom was always looking for ways to keep my friends and I at our house. I would highly suggest the queso and salsa as a way to leer them in! Add some pizza and coke and they may never leave!

Happy Cooking!

  1. Mmmmmm those all sound good but I must say the queso really intrigues me. I think that all of us raised in Oklahoma, Texas or other ‘southern’ states can sniff out the one thing that is least healthy but I like the idea of low fat on both. Gonna have to try the queso for sure! Thanks.

    1. Helen, I had the same thoughts. I looked all of them…considered the curry dip for pita chips, then when I saw the cream cheese and queso I had two thoughts: Ick? Maybe…Nope, gonna try it! 🙂
